Capture the Magic: A Dream Wedding at Wonderland Uluwatu, Bali
The Vision from our lovely couple:
The vision for our destination Bali wedding was for the wedding to reflect Blake and I personally with every little minor detail, minimalist features and decor in a maximalist way!
We had over the top lighting as our main decor feature, as our wedding was set in a beautiful clifftop garden, we felt we didn’t need to over do it with florals and went for a very minimal floral arrangement on our table setting and isle setting. We had stunning minimal table decor but made it pop with bright colours.
We chose to make a subtle entrance at our welcome drinks as we wanted to be with our friends and family for as long as possible, where we had our oyster bar and floral decorated champagne filled coupes upon arrival. Blake and I however, were drinking a French Grand Cru Chablis, which we had been saving for a special occasion.
We spent an hour welcoming our loved ones which took the pressure off the isle walk and 'grand entrance' style of wedding.
I walked with my dad down the isle to a song from one of our favourite tv shows, no bouquet as I felt it wasn’t me and we had our best friend who knows our relationship like no one else, be the one to tell our story.
Timed perfectly by our wedding planner, we were married at dusk and by the time the ceremony came to an end, the sun had completely gone down and we got to walk out of our isle, completely lit up with fairy lights, all of our guests had sparklers in hand and it felt like a true fairytale.
We then bought our guests to our dinner under the most beautiful fairy light canopy, where they found their seats and personalised note cards which we had written for every guest, whilst the saxophonist walked through and behind our guests and played our favourite jazz/funk style music. Our menu was curated between myself and the best of the best catering company director, who let us tailor the menu to suit all of our favourite dishes. The acrylic menu signs on the tables told everyone which was Blakes signature dish, a traditional Indonesian nasi goreng with a fried egg on top and which was mine, a kingfish sashimi with a Japanese style yuzu dressing.
We finished off dinner with speeches, no cake but instead, a lemon, lime and mango sorbet topped with biscuit and meringue crumble and as we left our fairy light canopy, the lights were switched off and the rest of the garden and dance floor section lit up with fairy lights.
I changed into the most ridiculous and over-the-top, yet amazing sparkly flared pants and Blake just showed up in some shorts he must have borrowed from someone else as I had never seen them before and we headed straight for the dance floor.
We had no formalities as we felt it wasn’t our style, just us and our guests dancing all night to our favourite songs and drinking our custom cocktail menu with our signature drink being a spicy tommy’s margarita.
The night ended with some blink 182 and good Charlotte before we had to call it a night, it was perfect!
From Engaged to Married - Our Dream Soda Creative Couple’s Wedding Story
The number one thing we knew we wanted was our wedding to be in Bali, a place we love and have so many personal memories and we wanted our guests to be in holiday mode! Not thinking about work the next day or any other reality checks, but to be completely present with us and having the best possible vibe that they can!
Blake and I, despite being completely fussy and wanting the best of everything, were actually not totally comfortable with a lot of the ideas and formalities that come with a wedding like being centre of attention, having anything too over the top or flashy or spending our money on certain things that meant nothing to us. We discussed our entire wedding at the very start and really broke down the parts that were important to us and wanted to really put our efforts and money into those things.
To Blake, the location was important and what beer we served, we needed to see beach and water and he had to make sure he chose the perfect beer for his friends and family and it had to be on tap and had to be served in chilled glasses. For me food for me was my absolute number one! I am a massive foodie and everyone who knows me, knows I would rather serve no food at the wedding than basic or bad food. I also wanted the cocktails to be perfect and for everything to not just be what we thought everyone else would like, but what we liked.
We didn’t have a bridal party, no flower bouquet, no grand entrance, no cake, no dance, no video or anything that made Blake and I not feel like ourselves. I will admit, the one thing that we struggled with was taking so many photos together which we are just not used to, but our photographers were amazing and made us feel so comfortable, but now we are SO glad because we will cherish these photo’s forever!
We thought about every tiny detail and the most consistent feedback we got from our friends and family, was how personal our wedding was, how much the entire day/night was a reflection of Blake and I and that it felt genuine.
It was everything we dreamed!
